The current T.S.C. reports upon the first Environmental Impact Report of the E.U., which acknowledges good progress towards sustainability and confirms that more effort is needed to prepare for rising demand. In shipping policy terms and ahead of a projected increase in global shipping volumes, the report published on the 1st of September reveals for the first time the full extent of the impact of the EU maritime transport sector on the environment and identifies challenges to achieving sustainability.
